Q&A: Branding

What is branding?

Personal branding photos represent a person or business as a "brand." Branding photos use a visual language to tell your audience or customers who you are and connect with them on a personal level. They're super useful for creating content on social media like Instagram, as well as for adding professionalism and style to your website.

Who is branding for?

So many different types of people need branding images! Social media influencers (like models and bloggers); small business owners (retail, restaurants, salons, etc.); entrepreneurs of all kinds...Branding images are for anyone who needs professional pictures that speak to their audience, and that can look like many different things depending on your individual needs!

Do you do product shots?

Yes, I do! If you book a personal branding shoot, I am more than happy to photograph both you and any products that you would like photographed. Please keep in mind that this may be subject to a price increase depending on the project you have in mind!

Where do you shoot? Can you come to me?

I normally shoot in Long Island City or Brooklyn. I am definitely willing to shoot on location, so let me know if you have a space in mind!

Do you retouch photos?

Yes! I apply color editing, blemish retouching, and light skin smoothing. The results are warm and natural.

What should I wear?

Generally, I think neutrals and solids look great on everyone, but this can change from person to person. It's a good idea to bring at least one outfit change to your shoot!

Will my pictures be published on your social media/website?

Only with your explicit permission! I will send you a form to sign that will give me permission (or not!) to use your pictures.

When can I expect my pictures?

Generally I will have your finished pictures ready in 1 to 2 weeks!

Q&A: Boudoir

What is boudoir?

Think your best sexy selfies—the ones you take just for your eyes, or to send someone special—on a whole other level. Boudoir is a genre of photography that involves intimate, sensual portraiture of women, often in lingerie or other forms of dishabille. Traditionally, a boudoir shoot has been done by a woman as a romantic gift for her significant other—often on their wedding day, anniversary, or Valentine’s Day. Nowadays, boudoir can still be a gift, but it is also popular as an expression of self-love and self-celebration.

Why do a boudoir shoot?

There are many reasons to do a boudoir shoot: a gift for a loved one, a celebration of a milestone, a “just because” indulgence for yourself. But the real value of the shoot is as an investment in yourself. The experience can do wonders to nourish your self-confidence, self-image, and poise. Plus, at the end of your shoot, you will have a collection of gorgeous images of yourself to look back on for years to come!

Who is boudoir for?

Boudoir is for all women--no modeling experience necessary! At Plum Stained Boudoir, there is no “one size fits all” approach to beauty. I am devoted to bringing out the beauty in all women, regardless of style, age, shape, or size.

What is it like to book a boudoir shoot? I'm nervous!

Booking a boudoir shoot can seem daunting. It's easy to worry about how you will look when it comes to everything from wardrobe to makeup to posing.

I understand these worries and I will be with you every step of the way, from booking all the way to choosing your pictures. I will give you advice on what to wear before your shoot; detailed tips on how to pose during your shoot; and insight into what photos you will love long after your shoot. After all is said and done, everyone I've shot says that the experience is, above all, fun!

Where do you shoot? Can you come to me?

I shoot in studios in Long Island City and Brooklyn. I'm also open to shooting on location—let me know if you have a space you'd like to shoot in!

How far in advance should I book my shoot?

If you have a date by which you need your pictures, I would recommend booking at least a month in advance. If you don't need them by any special date, I would say it's a good idea to book at least two weeks in advance.

Do you retouch photos?

Yes, I do! I fix very small things that are small and temporary—for example, blemishes, stray hairs, bruises, or an uneven shadow/texture on your face. I also do light skin smoothing, which will soften skin features like stretch marks, but won’t get rid of them completely. If you have any scars or other features which bother you in particular, please discuss it with me and I will do my best to either downplay it during our session, or take care of it with retouching.

However, please note that I do NOT do any intensive retouching: I will not airbrush your skin, change your body shape, or make any other drastic changes that will leave you not looking like yourself.

What should I wear? Do you provide wardrobe?

During our pre-shoot consultation, we will discuss different ideas for wardrobe based on your style, comfort level, and body type. I will send you some wardrobe recommendations so that you can have some flattering suggestions within your price range to think about.

If by any chance you can’t find something you like, or if you bring something and you don’t like it during your shoot, I have a small client wardrobe with some limited options in sizes XS to XL.

Keep in mind, anything can be wardrobe! Lingerie is great, as well as simple t-shirts, white sheets, or you can even go completely nude.

Do you provide hair and makeup? Can I do my own?

At the moment, I provide hair and makeup with an upgraded session. It is not included with my most basic session.

Which you choose depends entirely on you. I love shooting full glam looks, but I equally love no-makeup looks; I don't personally think you need full face makeup to be sexy. Before your shoot, we will go over hair and makeup so we can find a look that works for you!

Will my pictures be published on your social media/website?

I will never publish your pictures without your explicit permission. After a shoot, I send each of my clients a permission slip, through which they can allow me to publish NONE of their pictures, ALL of their pictures, or NON-IDENTIFYING pictures only. If this form is never signed, I will assume that I have the right to use NONE of the pictures in any public manner.

What forms of payment do you accept? Do you do payment plans?

While I do not do payment plans for shoots themselves, I do do payment plans for products! Email me to inquire about my packages and products. Just a note, I will not order any products until they're paid off in full!
